First Week on The North Platte

"Capt. Kirk w/ His 23" Hen!

Well, it was an interesting first week for me in Alcova, Wy. A winter storm came through an dumped over two feet of snow in the Casper area & 7" of snow at the Grey Reef dam on Mon. & Tues.(3-23/3-24). Had a trip Sun. before the storm & we crushed it! Boated 30 to 35 fish w/ the scud, leech & "Reef" worm being the hot flies. I landed a beautiful Brown on one of the stormy days in blizzard conditions.
The Grey Reef has been fishing exceptionally well. The fish are incredibly fat & full of fight! Bows are starting their spawn so they are getting really aggressive. (Leave 'em alone on the beds!)
Yesterday the Bearuea of Reclamation started their "Spring Flush". 500cfs bumped up to 4000cfs in 3-4 hrs in the middle of the night , then back down to 500cfs by 10:00am. This fluctuation cleans all the spawning gravel of sediment & fine silt & has been a positive impact for the last few years. They'll flush for 4 nights then the flows are suppose to be stabilized around 2000cfs, an excellent level for the fish to spread out after 500cfs all winter.
Last trip I did was Sat. 3-28 w/ "capt. Kirk" & Cole. The first fish of the day was a 23" Hen at the boat ramp that Kirk pinned. She was a bueat! The rest of the day they kept taking turns like gentlemen sticking fish. Thanks guys, fun day.
I had a trip Sun. reschedule due to wind so I went out for a couple hours w/ Stu in the afterbay, lil slow in the morning but we stuck a few. Afternoon was a different story! Here's a gorgeous fish I landed @ the Dam.
Well, back to Jackson to see Sanaya for a couple days then trips over the weekend.
Til next report, "Go Fishing!".
