Another great 2-1/2 days Steelheading. Hooked 8 landed 7, WOW! 1 Wild Buck of about 27" was an incredibly fight! Zac, Keith, & I pretty much had the whole river to ourselves. Didn't see any Spey fisherman & just a couple gear fisherman. The hot fly was a Purple/ Pink Guinea pattern.

Montana w/ Sanaya & Bailey
Had to take a trip off Steelheading & Sanaya wanted to go fishing , so we packed the truck & headed to Dillon, Mt. for a couple days. The Big Hole & Beaverhead were our target waters on the last 2 days of Mt.s general season. First day we woke up to light snow falling & a good dusting on the ground, but that didn't deter us! We headed up the road to lil town of Melrose to check out a few fishin holes, ICED UP! We stopped at the Salmon bridge access & Sanaya caught a nice rainbow nymphing. About an hour later, down river at Browne's bridge, I landed a nice brown. Pretty slow/cold day.
Next morning we had a little breakfast at "Granny's" & headed to the Beaverhead. We started fishing right below the dam to some "Phd" fish! Tuff fish! Headed down river to the "honey hole" and proceeded to nymph just down stream of some "Blonde"gravel. For the next 3 hours we hooked, fought, & landed many rainbows & browns in the 14-22" range. It was pretty amazing fishing! Until the next trips report,
"Here's to feelin the pull!"

Spectacular Steelheading!
Beautiful Wild hen.
Heck of a ram.
Dog "pointed" to this one!
Quincy w/ her 1st on a Spey rod w/ a lil help from Zac,3rd cast.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Spent the last week on the Salmon, it was best "Bite" this Fall.
Hooked fish every day, with many multiple hook ups in a day.
Once again Zac was the "hot rod" with his largest being a 31.5" 10lb beaut.
Mark & Mike fished over the weekend w/ us & did well also. Fished a day w/ Quincy & Max that was really entertaining. The dog tried to eat Quinc's fish 1st, then later in the day 1 of mine.
Well, off to the Big Hole in Mt. for a few days w/ Sanaya to catch large Browns.
report pending

Salmon, Idaho Steelhead
Went over to the Salmon last week with Mike & Mark. It was a great trip. We all got into Steelhead on the swing. I gave Mike his first Spey casting lesson & he was a natural. We were going over the Snap-T cast on the river left & within 6 or 7 casts Mike was into the first fish of the trip.
Next day I hooked up in the morning with a nice "Hen" @ the Wagonhammer run. I was on the opposite side of the river from the guys so I took a pic myself. Mike hooked up next , mid day in Jack's run. Excellent "Buck" that fought like a champ!
Mark was the afternoon hook up. We were in Mikie's run, @ the top & he gets a grab from a beautiful wild fish. (no pic)

South Fork w/ Dad & Tony
Fished w/ my best fishing buddies the last three days & we crushed it! We had Classic Fall Rocky Mountain weather, nasty. The fish had BWO's & Mahogany's on the menu. We fooled them w/ 4-5ft. deep nymph rigs all day.(#10 yuk bug,#16 lightening bug) The Fall colors are still brilliant on the river bottom.
Happy Bday Tony!(word)

Tiger Trout
Look what Ben caught on the Green, a Tiger Trout!
Tiger Trout are a cross between a female Brown & a male Brook Trout.
Incredibly rare in nature!
It was Ben's first day fly fishing & he started w/ a 23" Brown & kept it up all day.
This fish ate a Red Dragon fly around lunch time.

Fishing Journal '08
7/13/08
Well, been to busy to even get on the computer.
South Fork of the Snake has been fishing really well. The Salmon fly hatch is in full swing with PMD's, Drakes, Golden Stones, & Yellow Sallies also getting the fish to look up. I've been fishing Goldens with Pheasant tail droppers mainly with excellent success. Clodty days the Drakes have been the ticket.
Speaking of Drakes, the Green River is on FIRE!I've been down there the last few days & have had exceptional fishing. The Grey Drakes are thick with Goldens & Sallies getting attention too. The Browns are in great shape; fat, full of color, & acrobatic!
The Snake here in Jackson is still not ready. Looks like it might be a week or two, we'll see.
Got to go fishin'.
Good fishin' everybody.

Well, as I said, bear with me .
All the rivers in the Jackson area are at full run off now. It looks like the chocolate river in Willy Wonka. There are a few area lakes that have iced out and the fish are feeding. Spring is a great time to fish lakes because fish are cruising the shallows trying to catch up on the weight they lost in the winter. Contact Baker @ Westbank Anglers for details.
I'm still guiding on the North Platte just SW of Casper, Wy. until 6/15/08. The fishing here has been excellent! The Platte is a Tailwater fishery, exits a dam and doesn't pick up a tributary stream for about 9 miles which keeps the water clear & the fish hungry pretty much all Spring.
FLIES: It's been the rock worm show as far as flies over here 10-18. The rainbows are just completing their spawning so glow bugs are still really affective along with the life stages of Blue Winged Olives 18-22. Midges are on the menu some days with 20-22 larvas in black, red, & brown doing the ticket. Medium size brown leeches have been fooling a few fish also.
I have some days open in the next 3 weeks that I'm here, so lets go fishing!
Call Platte River Fly Shop for reservations.

Well, been guiding over on the North Platte River just SW of Casper, Wy. for the last week and fishing was good. Deep Nymphing was the game, 15' leaders w/ rock worms, scuds, leeches, & 50/50's being the flies du juor. Contact the Platte River Fly Shop @ Wyomingflyfishing.com if you would like to fish w/ me.
Snake River has been fishing great! I went out last week twice and found excellent fishing on Griffith's gnats, w/a trailing midge emerger behind it. My buddy's have been floating & finding pods of fish rising also. The streamer bight is picking up w/ a few sunny days warming up the water a bit. Nymph fishing is pretty much always productive on the Snake. Large princes, rubber legs, pheasant tails w/ rainbow warriors, miracle midges, green peeking caddis (16-20s) dropped behind will do the ticket. Try using a water balloon as a strike indicator, pretty awesome!
Green River has a few iced out spots but still a lil' bit away from being ready.
I'll try to update this weekly, but bear w/ me.
Good fishin' everybody!!

Bald Eagle with a Catch
My buddy Jay was fishing on the Henry's Fork and caught this quick snapshot with his telephoto of a bald eagle. Not sure what it has in it's talons (maybe a duck), but it sure looks mangled and tasty.
